In designing Carbonal frames, our engineers set out to produce the strongest, fastest, stiffest, lightest and most reliable frames. Through materials, tooling and finite processes, our engineers focus on designing features into each frame that address the traditional weaknesses of carbon frames and ultimately result in a frame that is strong enough to train on yet light enough to race on.
Carbon frames are not about individual craftsmanship, but about design, materials, procedure, and precision. According to a carefully calculated layup schedule that specifies the grade and modulus of the carbon fiber and the orientation of the strands of fibers themselves, a trained technician hand-layers pieces of machine-cut prepregnated unidirectional carbon fiber. They are then assembled into CNC-milled blocks of steel female molds (one for each size), pressure bagged, then cured with heat under pressure...every piece Carbonal frame has a series number which allowed quality control inspector to track the product on every process.
Carbonal has tested all our frames as well other carbon frames on the market to create baselines of acceptable performance. From there we have set an internal standard for performance for each type of frame. And we also selected frames at random and submitted them to SGS for testing according to EN standards.
